The Android tablet market is sustaining life, but there are still some stubborn people who refuse to open up white flags. One of the leading brands in terms of cost is Huawei, which dominates the mid-range and entry-level with affordable tablets while occasionally testing the waters with higher specs.
With the MatePad Pro, Huawei is not taking its flagship tablet with levity. Is the MatePad Pro the iPad Pro that tablet that fans have been expecting?
The Design and Display
The Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 is thin despite its nearly 13-inch screen. The OLED display is framed by narrow panels measuring just 5.6 millimeters (~0.22 inches) on each side. Not only does it look beautiful, but it also gives Huawei a strong screen-to-body ratio of 90%.
The thin metal frame doesn’t sacrifice stability. The MatePad Pro 12.6 is superbly processed, feels high quality and is difficult to play with even greater effort. Weighing in at 609 grams, this tablet is still relatively light and can hold up well, especially given its slim chassis at just 6.7 millimeters.
The Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 OLED display has a refresh rate of 60 Hz and, with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, ensures high image sharpness. However, the brightness is quite low compared to the competition.
The power button and volume button are placed “in the corner”, the first on the short side opposite the camera, the volume button on the long top side. Huawei is offering its XXL tablet in a “matt gray” housing color as a test sample for testing. An olive green version with a vegan skin finish is also available.
Memory, Software, Processor and Connectivity
Huawei’s MatePad Pro 12.6 offers 256 GB of storage, of which about 234 GB is used free. The memory can be expanded with an NM card which can accommodate up to 256 GB. Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 is equipped with HiSilicon Kirin 9000E, a high-end octa-core SoC.
The physical interface of the two tablets is a USB-C port (USB-C 3.2 Gen.1). It can be used as an audio interface with the supplied 3.5mm jack adapter and also allows peripheral devices to be connected with its OTG support. Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 works with HarmonyOS, which is based on Android 10. In terms of appearance and performance, it hasn’t changed much compared to standard Android. However, some special features have been added.
Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 does not support cellular communication and NFC. Its only communication channels are Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.2, including 4×4 MIMO.
The triple camera of the Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 comprises of a 13 MP camera with f/1.8 aperture and autofocus, together with an 8 MP wide-angle camera with fixed focus and a 120° field of view. The third aspect is a 3D camera with depth detection. On the front, there is an 8 MP selfie camera which takes photos and records videos well up to 1920 x 1080 pixels at 30 frames per second.
The Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 offers strong performance, but it can’t convince everyone. However, the list of pluses is extensive. If you feel this is a tablet that you will want to purchase, I will recommend that you purchase it on Banggood.
